At Sensation Station, Village Play Group is about much more than simply keeping little ones entertained.

The early years are a time of incredible development. Every song, movement, interaction and sensory experience can become an opportunity for a child to develop a new skill. Through our Village Play Group, we bring these opportunities together in a way that feels natural to young children -through play, music, movement and connection.
Creating Connection Through Music
For babies and toddlers, familiar voices, songs and routines can provide a strong sense of comfort and security. Singing together creates a shared experience between children and their caregivers, helping little ones feel safe, supported and connected.
Songs such as The Wheels on the Bus are more than fun sing-alongs. They encourage children to listen, anticipate what comes next, copy actions and participate alongside others. A child could clap their hands, move their arms, make sounds or simply watch at first and every form of participation is valuable.
These shared musical moments also support early communication and language development. Children hear new words, sounds and rhythms while gradually learning how to express themselves and respond to others.
Discovering the World Through Sensory Play
Sensory play is another important part of the Village Play Group experience. Babies and toddlers learn about the world through their senses – so providing opportunities to touch, see, hear, smell and explore different materials can support their natural curiosity.
Sensory activities can introduce children to different textures, colours, sounds, shapes and temperatures in an age-appropriate way. Whether they are exploring a new texture with their hands, listening to different sounds or discovering how objects move, children are actively learning through their senses.
Sensory play can also encourage concentration, curiosity and problem-solving. Children are given the freedom to explore at their own pace, making discoveries through hands-on experiences.
Supporting Communication and Language
Every interaction in a play group can become an opportunity for communication. Songs, stories, actions and simple conversations expose children to new vocabulary and encourage them to listen and respond.
Repetition is particularly valuable for young children. Hearing the same songs and phrases repeatedly helps them become familiar with sounds and words. Over time, they may begin to anticipate a particular part of a song, copy an action or attempt to say a word themselves.

These small moments reaching for an instrument, joining a song, copying an action or exploring a new sensory activity can be important steps towards independence.
