When it comes to your child’s development, we know you want the best support possible. At Sensation Station, we’re committed to helping you and your child every step of the way. One of the key parts of this journey is the Parent Consultation (PC)—a crucial conversation that sets the stage for effective Speech and Language therapy and/or Occupational Therapy.
What to Expect from a Parent Consultation
Before your child begins therapy, we’ll schedule a Parent Consultation, a 30 to 40 minute meeting designed to understand your concerns and gather essential information. Here’s what we’ll cover:
-
Listening to Your Concerns: This is your chance to share why you’ve sought therapy. Whether your child is dealing with speech delays, sensory challenges, difficulties with age-appropriate tasks or other issues, we’re here to listen and understand your perspective.
-
Discussing Your Child’s History: We’ll talk about your child’s medical and developmental background, including any diagnoses or previous therapies. This helps us get a full picture of your child’s needs.
-
Reviewing Past Interventions: If your child has had therapy before, we’ll discuss what worked, what didn’t, and how we can build on those experiences.
Why This Consultation is So Important
The Parent Consultation is more than just a meeting; it’s the foundation of the therapy process at Sensation Station. By understanding your child’s history and your concerns, we can create a plan tailored to their specific needs and set meaningful, achievable goals.
We ask that parents attend the consultation without their child so we can have a more open and focused conversation. Children can often pick up on when they’re being discussed, which can make them uncomfortable. Additionally, having your child in the room might make it harder for us to dive into the details needed to plan the best care. However, we understand that finding childcare isn’t always easy. If you need to bring your child along, just let us know when you’re booking, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
What Happens Next?
After the Parent Consultation, our Speech and Language Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist will share their initial thoughts and recommendations. This is where we start crafting a plan that’s right for your child. Sometimes, this might include referrals to other services that could further support your child’s development.
Our Admin Team will also be available to confirm session times and let you know about any current promotions.
We’re in This Together
At Sensation Station, we’re not just about providing therapy; we’re about building a partnership with parents and carers to help your child thrive. The Parent Consultation is the first step in that partnership, ensuring that we’re all on the same page and working toward the best possible outcome for your child.
