At Sensation Station we use a Sensory based approach to support children of determination. Furthermore, this approach is used by all of the centre’s Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists, Able-Me lead staff. This approach can incorporate elements such as:
Snoezelen Room Fun Junction
Our Sensory Gym “Fun Junction” and Snoezelen Room “Wonder World” are used by all therapists within a multi-disciplinary setting. An advantage of therapy at our “Snoezelen” room is that firstly, it does not rely on verbal communication and secondly, it may be beneficial for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD).
- Exploration through Arts and Crafts – Children need to learn through their senses and art is a great way of accomplishing this. This focuses on the brain’s capacity to adapt and develop pathways by learning through stimulation of the senses. In addition, it enhances attention skills and cognition with children often showing significant gains in emotional awareness, communication, creative thinking and processing.
- Children are encouraged to play, explore and create crafts by using different materials. For example, paints, crayons, glue, glitter, sand, water, slime, paper, cotton wool including shaving foam, etc.
