Parent Consultation
Prior to commencing therapy sessions, the therapist will conduct a Parent Consultation (PC) which is a vital part of the intervention process, this session takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
The aim of the PC is to
- Establish the parents’ concerns and reasons for referring
- Obtain and discuss important information regarding medical and developmental history/diagnoses
- Discuss previous interventions/therapy
We request parents to come to the PC without their child so it allows for open discussion of matters; all children can understand when they are being discussed, and we do not feel this is appropriate or conducive. In addition to this, having the child in the room can be very distracting which makes it difficult for a conversation to take place. We understand that in some cases, due to childcare issues this may not be possible, in which case please inform us at the booking stage.
The information gathered from the PC is essential to further guide the therapists’ intervention and goal setting. The therapist will verbally feedback their initial thoughts and recommendations for moving forward. This may also incorporate onward referrals to other services.
The administration team will be able to confirm details regarding session times and will inform you of current and relevant special offers.
You want what’s best for your child and your family, and so do we.
Our goal is to give parents insight into the various situations they are dealing with and to look for appropriate, effective, and lasting solutions.
