SEN & Inclusion @ Dubai Heights Academy
Dubai Heights Academy (DHA) is a British Curriculum School located in Al Barsha, Dubai which opened in September 2017. DHA will provide students with excellent opportunities and support to develop academically, socially and emotionally. A place where students will feel secure, significant and valued in a progressive, modern and engaging environment.
At Dubai Heights Academy we cater for a wide range of needs including Dyslexia, physical disabilities, speech and language needs, general learning difficulties as well as students who are gifted and talented.
As a new school we are developing our Inclusion department. At present, we have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) who is our Inclusion Champion across the school. We have strong links with outside centres such as Sensation Station who currently spend three days each week delivering Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy sessions at the school. Across the school, our teachers have experience supporting students with a variety of needs or have previous experience working within SEND departments. As our school continues to grow, the number of SEN staff can also be expected to increase to match the needs of the students.
As the school nears its completion, we will have designated specialist facilities across the school including a multi-sensory gym and snoezelen room. These facilities have been designed to support skills such as gross motor development and sensory needs. All students will have the opportunity to access these facilities.
As an inclusive school, DHA aims to accommodate all students. Our policy outlines different levels of provision that a student may require; from universal provision in the classroom, to targeted support in the form of interventions and group work, through to specialist provision in the form of 1:1 sessions. We encourage prospective parents to visit the school and to meet our SENCO to find out more regarding Inclusion and support at DHA.
